September = National Breakfast Month!
Posted on August 31, 2010 · Leave a CommentSo apparently August was national “Eat Your Dessert” month. I was disappointed to discover this on the last day, but fortunately the next best thing, in my opinion, is breakfast! I wanted to give a little history about breakfast and share some great spots around Ambler to eat and celebrate “Breakfast Month”
The word Breakfast came about because it means breaking the fast after one has not eaten (fasted) since the night before…interesting, right?
Here are some top reviews that I found for places in the area:
Tiger’s 2 – Try the Eggs Benedict
1380 Skippack Pike
Blue Bell, PA 19422
Lancers Diner – Fresh Baked Goods
858 Easton Rd
Horsham, PA 19044
Fill A Bagel – Great Breakfast Sandwiches
424 Old York Rd
Jenkintown, PA 19046
September is also National Cholesterol Awareness Month…so easy on the Eggs Benedict
The Snack ~ A Comedic Spin on Takers the Movie
Posted on August 26, 2010 · Leave a CommentIt’s time for my weekly ‘Snack!’ Well its more like my monthly snack because it’s been ages since I’ve posted one of these.
For those of you who don’t know ‘The Snack’ is my version of ‘The Soup’ where I share one of my favorite clips from television or the web with you.
This weeks clip comes from a commercial I saw on Cartoon Network for the movie Takers…
Sony Pictures and Cartoon Network came up with this concept to take a comedic take on a movie protrayed as so serious and I must admit it has me more excited to see the movie.
TAKERS, directed by John Luessenhop, revolves around a notorious group of criminals (Idris Elba, Paul Walker, T.I., Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen and Michael Ealy) who continue to baffle police by pulling off perfectly executed bank robberies. They are in and out like clockwork, leaving no evidence behind and laying low in between heists. But when they attempt to pull off one last job with more money at stake than ever before, the crew may find their plans interrupted by a hardened detective (Matt Dillon) who is determined to solve the case.
You can check out this commercial all week on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. The commercial features actors, Montrel Miller and Ron Ogden and you can find them on Twitter @MontrelMiller and @drmagoo18.
You can check out Takers in theatres Friday at Regal Warrington Crossing 22 near The Woods.

For those of you who haven’t seen it. The movie is about Jennifer Aniston’s character neurotic best friend who hijacks her ‘artificial inseminated’ pregnancy.

Saturday my sister and I went to see the movie. I have to say it was right on point. It did not go above or below my expectation. It’s definitely a movie worth seeing but you can also wait to it goes out on DVD instead of paying the $10 to see it at the theatres.

Learn When To Replace Things in Your Apartment
Posted on August 13, 2010 · Leave a CommentKeeping things forever sounds ideal to some people but it’s just not practical. Some things we can hold on to for 5 to 10 but eventually they need to be replaced. Here are a couple of things in an apartment and just in life that we often forget that needs to be replaced…
Hair and body oils will have soaked into a pillow’s fabric and stuffing after a year of nightly use, making it a breeding ground for odor-causing bacteria and allergy-triggering dust mites. Using protectors can double the life of your pillows.
2) Toss your mattress after 5 to 10 years
A good mattress lasts 9 to 10 years, according to the National Sleep Foundation, but consider replacing yours every 5 to 7 years if you don’t sleep well. A study at Oklahoma State University found that most people who switched to new bedding after 5 years sleep significantly better and have less back pain
3) Replace vitamins after 2 years
Because the product may have been sitting on store or warehouse shelves for a year, chuck it 2 years after purchase.

3 Expenses College Freshmen Should Avoid
Posted on August 12, 2010 · Leave a CommentCollege can be extremely expensive. Especially freshman year because students and often time the parents don’t know what expenses are unneccessary. As a person only a little over a year out of college I want to give you advice on 3 things that students should avoid their first year of college.
Cable TV
Freshman year you will barely be home to watch any TV and you can always crash over a friends house to watch your favorite reality. Plus most of your favorite shows will be online at Hulu.com, Fancast.com, or through the networks website.
High bank fees
When I was in college all of the out-of-state students would get a lot of bank fees. Students should open an account at a bank that is close to campus and has nationwide coverage. This could save hundreds of dollars.
You can also consider opening an online checking account with a bank that doesn’t charge ATM fees or that refunds ATM surcharges by other banks.
Private loans
If you can avoid it do it at all cost. Private loans are the type of loans that come after you first when you get out of college.
Fill out the FAFSA as early as possible. This will up your chance of getting a grant. Plus, you can go to websites like Fastweb to look for scholarships.

3 Easy Bank Fees To Avoid
Posted on August 11, 2010 · Leave a CommentI’ve developed an interest lately in ways to save money. Last month, I gave you 3 easy budgeting mistakes to avoid but the biggest mistake anyone can make is to just give away your money…especially to the bank.
I got this idea while watching an episode of the Bernie Mac show, when Vanessa figured out free checking accounts still have hidden fees.
Check out these 3 easy bank fees you can avoid to save you a couple hundred dollar a year…
• Overdraft fees. Sign up for low-balance alerts via e-mail, and link your checking account to your savings account to move money as necessary to avoid $35 fees for insufficient funds.
• ATM fees. Know where your own bank’s ATMs are located, even in other states, so you can save $3 every time you get cash out of the wall. Or consider switching to a bank that offers free ATM usage regardless of which bank’s ATM you tap.
• Coin-counting commissions. Save the 5% it can cost you to cash in your nickels and quarters at the supermarket. Coin counting is gratis at hundreds of TD Bank branches in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Florida, whether or not you have an account. (Just pray the machine, called Penny Arcade, isn’t down for service. That seems to happen a lot.)
